In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, Signal Hill is participating in a reading challenge starting February 29. Today students will receive a yellow reading calendar to track their minutes read each day. Students are to read 20 minutes (or more) and then color in the hat on that day. This calendar will take the place of our Book It Calendar. These will be due March 18th.
Along with our reading challenge, students will be participating in 'spirit' days.
Monday - Hat Day
Tuesday - No school - however students are encourage to read at home
Wednesday - Dress like your favorite book character day
Thursday - Wear a Tie Day
Friday - Pajama Day
I encourage all my students to participate in this fun reading challenge! Happy reading!
February Book It calendars are due next week! Please make sure that you list the date, title, and author for each day that you read. If they complete this activity, they will receive a coupon for a free personal pan sized pizza courtesy of Pizza Hut. I hope you all continue reading in order to earn this wonderful prize! Happy reading!
We need some adults for our take home reading program. Your job would be to come in one day a week for 30 minutes or so to listen to a few children read and help them choose a book to practice reading at home. The times we need help with are Thursday 1:15 to 1:45 pm, and Friday 9:30 to 10:00 am. If you can help but the times don’t work, contact Mrs. Norberg, firstname.lastname@example.org, and she will try to work around your schedule.
The Second Grade Team
Basket Auction/Dance rescheduled
The Basket Auction/Dance event has changed to April 29th. We will continue to accept candle or monetary donations for our candle class basket during this time. Thank you!!
We have officially run out of glue sticks!! If you can send in a few with your child, that would be wonderful!!
Thank you for all your support!!
During the parent/teacher conferences, I talked about the online reading program Raz Kids. A parent newsletter and student username/password cards were given during this time. This is a great website for students to read various fiction and nonfiction passages. They are also quizzed on the material they read. This will give parents an idea of whether or not your child is understanding the book. If you have misplaced your username/password card, please let me know!
IXL Online Math program
Last week IXL passwords and usernames were sent home. This online site is a wonderful way to practice and review math concepts learned this year. If we ever have inclement weather, I highly recommend using this program to stay on top of math concepts that we are learning in class. If you misplaced the username/password information sheet, please email me at email@example.com.
Welcome to my class!
I am very excited to begin the 2015-2016 school year in 2nd grade! I look forward to meeting with each of my students at our Open House on August 28th from 11 to 12. If you cannot make Open House, I am excited to begin our school year on August 31.
Enjoy the last few days of summer!
