Multiplication and Division
We have had an excellent start to the new year! The boys have been working hard. In Math we have been working on multiplication and division. The boys have learned the multiples of 3, 4, and 6. They already knew the multiples of 2, 5 and 10. This has helped them greatly when learning to multiply and divide. If you have any questions with how they are learning this using multiples, please contact me. They are doing excellent. They have even learned to multiply a 2 - digit number by a single digit number. I am so proud of them. We recently have been studying fraction. We have been learning to write fractions as a part of a whole and fraction as a part of a set! We also have started adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators!
Last week during language arts we focused on making predictions based on the information in the text that we read. For the next couple weeks we are going to be working on using context clues to help us figure out the meaning of unknown words and help us to read unknown words.
Please continue reading with your children every night!
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break! I enjoyed hearing all the great food and fun activities they did over the break.
We have begun our reading challenge. I sent home a blue form for your child to record their minutes they read every night. Please send it back to school every Friday in December. I will record their minutes and then send home the calendar so you can record the minutes for the next week. If we reach our school -wide goal of 200,000 minutes by December 17th then we will celebrate with the movie, The Polar Express, The Polar Express read aloud and pajama day reward!
We continue learning multiplication and division. The boys have learned the multiples of 2,3,4,5 and we will begin learning the multiples of 6 next. Please practice the multiples they have learned so they don't forget them. They are able to multiply and divide using the multiples they have learned using touch points. If you have any questions about this method please let me know.
Learning about multiplication
We have had a great couple weeks! I am excited because we were able to raise $1,705 for the Autism Society of Northern Virginia through the Autism Walk! It was a fun day.
We started our Math Unit on multiplication and division. We have worked on understanding what multiplication is and how we use it in our real lives. We will begin learning the multiples, 1 - 10. This will help us learn how to multiply and learn our multiplication facts.
Please keep reading with your children every day!
Just a reminder that the Autism Walk is quickly approaching. Please join the Signal Hill Elementary School Panda Power Team for the 5K Walk for Autism.

- 10/13 - Spirit Night @ Chick - Fil - A
- 10/16 - Popcorn Friday - send in a dollar if you want your child to get popcorn
Your children have been working hard to learn the new routine and schedules. They have been very flexible with any changes that have been made in their schedules, and continue to learn their daily schedules. We have been working on writing about what we did over the summer and on our weekends. This can be difficult for some of them to remember. Please send in a little note about anything you did with your child over the weekend on Monday. This helps them with recall and remembering details Please remember to have your child read to you every day, and then ask your child questions about the story. We are always working on improving comprehension in our room.
Please email me with any questions or concerns!
