March 25th, 2020

Dear Friends,

I hope each of you are doing well during this strange and confusing time. I know this isn't how we planned to end the year, but know that I miss all of you so much. I miss your laugh, your smile, your stories, and being able to see you each day. Even though this isn't what we had planned, we will get through it together!

I am so proud of you and all the hard work you showed me this year. Please keep working hard and trying your best- be creative and show me all the fun things you are learning and doing at home. Prince William County has posted an outstanding new PWCS Home Learning Page for you to access.  You may visit the page for optional at home learning. Also, we are eagerly awaiting more news from the Virginia Department of Education, as well as the superintendent here in Prince William County, about how to proceed from here. I will provide updates as I hear them.

I know that you miss your classmates and coming to school... I miss it too! I've included some pictures below for you to see. See if you can find yourself! I'd love to hear back from you about what you have been doing while at home and if you were able to read or listen to a new book that you really liked. Your parents have received a couple e-mails from me about some fun ways for us to stay connected. I would love for you to join in on the fun each week. Even though we can’t be together now, we are still a family and are here for each other. Each one of you are so very special to me, so loved by me, and so very missed. ❤️

All my love,

Miss Dentner

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Unfortunately, as you know, it has been declared all public and private schools in Virginia are closed until the end of the academic year. I know this has been a shock for all of us. My heart hurts because I never thought Friday, March 13th would be the day that I gave and got my final hugs and goodbyes from my students who were there. This isn't how any of us wanted the year to end. I will miss our morning meetings, talking with your children, making them laugh, and so so much more!

As of right now, Prince William County has provided this link for help for ideas with home learning:      http://www.pwcs.edu/academics___programs/home_learning

On this page, there are details regarding expectations for optional at home instruction during the current closure. If you haven't already, I highly suggest that you visit this resource page for more information on what a daily schedule could look like for your child with links for online learning (in reading, writing, math, music, art, fitness, etc). At this point, teachers are waiting to hear what our next steps will look like with this school closure.

A Fun Way for Room 109 to Stay Connected

I have decided to create a Class Dojo account as a way for students and parents to stay connected with me during this new transition. I have sent out an e-mail asking you to join the Class Dojo page, however, if you did not receive an e-mail from me, please e-mail me at Dentnean@pwcs.edu and I will add you to our page! On here I will send out any updates I am provided with, as well as, fun ways to communicate with the kids.

Additional Links:I have included some links that your children are familiar with. Please email and let me know if you need their logins for RazKids or Dreambox! These programs can be played on tablets, phones, and on computers.

  • Raz-Kids (a differentiated online reading program with access to hundreds of books paired with comprehension questions)
  • Starfall specializes in reading, math, and phonics games
  • PebbleGois a curriculum-connected research tool specifically for elementary school educators and students.
