Homework includes math pages and games as they come up in the curriculum. There is not a set schedule. The games reinforce the skills necessary for your child to be successful in math. There is also daily reading on Monday thru Thursdays for 20 minutes. Due to the new county policy, reading is optional on days when there is math homework.
Also, there are several projects sent home during the year. These go with specific units of study and are sent during that time. Homework is not graded but projects are graded. If the teacher does not receive homework, it will be noted on the report card.
All second grade teachers have students write in agendas to prepare for third grade. Students have daily folders/binders where homework is sent home and returned and with pockets for money or notes for the teacher. Please send all money in an envelope with child’s name and purpose of money on it. This is to ensure it gets to the right place. Graded work is sent in the folder/binder on Fridays.
Lunch accounts are not monitored by the school. That is a separate account and must be handled by contacting the cafeteria directly at 703-530-7521. The cafeteria manager puts notices in teacher boxes and we send them as soon as possible. However, sometimes the notice goes home after they receive a recent payment so it will not be listed. Please call them if you have any concerns or to double check.
Please be aware that there is a dress code for elementary school. Heeley’s, shoes with wheels, and flip flops are not allowed to be worn at school at any time. This is for your child’s safety. Also, tank tops and spaghetti straps are not allowed unless worn under another shirt or jacket. This means your child cannot take off the jacket or outside top all day.
If you park on Birmingham Drive, your car will be towed. If you park illegally within the parking lot, you are likely to be ticketed. On days when a lot of parents are present in the building, you may be asked to park in the grass. You may not park near the building as this creates a safety issue at recess.
