My name is Lorri Dyson. I am a native of South Carolina. I received my undergraduate degree from Benedict College in Columbia, S.C and my Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning with emphasis in Reading from George Mason University. This is my 30th year of teaching. I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your child in the 2016/17 school year.
We are working on Dreambox (Math) and Raz-kids (Language Arts) in the computer lab. Please have your child to work on these activities at home. Both of these will help your child to become more fluent in math and reading.
In the event of any unexpected closures, delayed openings or early releases due to inclement weather, please have your child read for 10 minutes and work on Dreambox for 10 minutes. Dreambox is a computer generated math program, that supports the PWC's second grade math curriculum.
Every student in our class has an account with Dreambox, which is available 24/7. Encourage your child to log on and practice – watch as your child improves in speed and accuracy, and watch as your child advances through levels. In addition, I can see in a glance which students practiced at night, and for how long he/she practiced on Dreambox. Every student received his/her login information in January and have begun practicing solving different math problems in the classroom. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Our At-Home Project for the month of March is a Shamrock. I will be sending it home on Friday and it will be due on or before March 6.
Scholastic Book Orders
I will begin taking Scholastic Book Orders beginning 2/28/17. You may go to scholastic.com/reading club to place all orders. Please note that I will submit all orders on 3/5/17 in order for the students to read their March books before the April flier comes in. Many of Scholastic books follow a monthly theme. Therefore, I will be submitting all orders the first/second week of each month to give the students ample time to read their monthly books.
