I do hope you all will be able to get out and enjoy some sunshine this weekend.  I plan on planting my vegetables and some of my flower beds.

I would love to see a picture of the children enjoying the great outdoors.  Our next zoom meeting will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM.  Please help your child select a favorite animal to share with the class.

Adapted Physical Education Review Opportunity

I hope that you and your family are well during this time.  I wanted to provide you and your family a few optional learning activities and resources to continue practicing your child’s gross motor skills while at home.  Your child may require prompting and physical assistance to start and complete activities.

Warm-ups/Non-locomotor skills:

Create your own “Wheel of Exercises”…fun activity to do as a family.  Go to WheelofNames.com and create your own wheel or you can enter in the exercises below.  You can change colors, sound effects and how long you want the wheel to turn.

Exercise Wheel- click on link spin the wheel and participate in exercise, close exercise….spin again

5 toe touches- hold for a 5 second count, 10 jumping jacks “make letter i and x”, 10 arm circles,

5 squats/knee bends “down and up”, 10 cross arms in front “make letter t and x”

*Locomotor/Cardio:

The Learning Station- Move and Freeze Video: If you can’t follow along with all the moves; do the best you can and freeze when they say freeze…go those hearts pumping and make them stronger!

https://youtu.be/388Q44ReOWE

Plate Skates:  Use paper plates on the floor.  Trace outline of foot on each plate for visual placement.  Slide, move feet to the music/beat or just slide around without music. Wheelchair students will need to have footplates removed and slide forward to place feet on the plate skates.

*Object Movement:

Using a balloon- blow up the balloon and have your child hit the balloon up in the air using both hands like they are setting a volleyball.  See how many times they can hit the balloon and keep it up in the air, before it hits the ground.  A lightweight ball can be used as well.

If your child has a difficult time moving after the balloon, tape/or tie a piece of yarn or string to the balloon and hold it above their head or in front of them.  They can use their hands or head to move the balloon. If you don’t have a balloon, hold a lightweight ball in your hands and have your child hit it up/or out of your hands 10 times.

*Video Choice Activity:

GoNoodle.com    has a variety of activities to chose from and you can download the app to use on an ipad , iphone or MAC computer.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, or should you need any help supporting your child while practicing these activities. Please also access your schools Physical Education webpage/website for more activities.

April 16, 2018:  We have been studying scientific investigations as we have learned about all about the topic of Matter.  We finished our unit by making root beer and orange floats.  The children identified solids, liquids, and gases found in their float. The children also watched raisins dance and balloons blow up as part of our investigations of matter.  In the coming weeks we will focus our scientific investigation on the life cycle of various farm animals and insects.

In Social Studies, we have been studying famous Americans.  The last person we studied was George Washington Carver.  The children were thrilled to learn about the great plant doctor.  We will finish up out unit on George Washington Carver this week.  In the weeks to come, we will be studying other famous Americans (Ben Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt).

Our morning table time is focused on spring.  We have been reading books and graphing objects related to the season of spring.  If you have a few minutes, now that it is warmer, take you child for a walk and let them see, hear, smell, and feel spring.

I would like to thank everyone who has turned in their transportation request for the next school year.  You will be receiving the finalized version in the next few weeks.  If your child has an IEP meeting coming up, we will finalize the transportation form at the meeting.

Donations Needed:  Our class is in need of glue sticks, paper plates, and cups.

As the season changes, please make sure you send in a change of weather appropriate clothes for your child.

December 3, 2017:
Greetings!  I can hardly believe the month of November is passed and we are quickly approaching winter break.  The children have done a great job learning some basic map skills (matching land, water, and road picture symbols) and have completed the weather unit.  We are now moving into scientific experimentation where we are investigating items that sink and float.  Our new terms are variable, hypothesis, buoyancy and water displacement.  The children are learning to classify items by their buoyancy.  In social studies the children are learning to classify events as past, present, and future.  They are using pictures to interact with a classroom timeline.
In math we continue to work on number sense, patterns, and graphing.  Letters, letter sound,  name and word recognition continue to be our focus during language arts instruction.
