At Signal Hill, in order to achieve our mission, vision, and core values, we believe in understanding, reviewing, and instilling our Panda Essentials every day. This is a collective effort and partnership with our school staff and community as we work together to teach students to represent these essentials into their daily lives.

Literacy
At Signal Hill, our English Language Arts (ELA) program is grounded in the Science of Reading, ensuring every student builds a strong foundation in literacy. We proudly implement the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) framework alongside HMH Into Reading, combining structured, evidence-based practices with engaging, high-quality texts.
Through UFLI, students receive explicit, systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, and decoding—critical components for early reading success. HMH Into Reading complements this approach by fostering comprehension, vocabulary development, and a love for literature across all grade levels.
Together, these programs support our mission to develop confident, capable readers who are prepared for lifelong learning.
Math
At Signal Hill Elementary, we’re committed to providing a strong foundation in mathematics through a blend of high-quality curriculum and innovative learning tools.
Our core math curriculum is Savvas enVision Math, a comprehensive program that builds deep understanding of mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills. To personalize learning, students also have access to Successmaker, an adaptive math app that targets each child’s individual needs and supports growth at their own pace.
We further enrich math instruction with supplemental resources designed to strengthen skills and spark curiosity:
- Magma Math: Creates opportunities for student-driven discourse and collaboration.
- ST Math: Used in Kindergarten and 1st Grade; this visual program helps young learners build conceptual understanding through interactive puzzles.
- IXL Math: Provides targeted practice for students in Grades 2–5, reinforcing key skills and standards.
🎯 Our Goal: Building Problem Solvers
A schoolwide focus at Signal Hill is nurturing students to become confident, creative problem solvers. To support this goal, we’re excited to begin implementing strategies from Building Thinking Classrooms across all grade levels. This research-based approach promotes active engagement, collaboration, and deeper thinking in math—empowering students to take ownership of their learning.
Together, these tools and strategies create a dynamic math environment where every student can thrive.
Intructional Technology
We use technology to enrich the learning experience by making activities collaborative and customizable. We strive to provide students with choice in how to show their understanding across multiple TechEd platforms such as Wixie, Book Creator, IXL, Nearpod, and others. Technology in our classrooms is used to enhance learning experiences, not replace them.
